‘Coffee Beans Grow in My Head’ is a documentary film produced as part of Creative City Project: Birmingham 2022 Festival – Commonwealth Games. It is a work of co-creation with Eritrean - Ethiopian migrants in Birmingham.

The film observes the unique relationship among individuals, the city and its cafes. The cafes, as defined by its own cultural geography and delicacies, provide both a personal and communal space for those who seek their comfort in leisure, friendship and food. Birmingham and its urban landscape as backdrop the film explores the communities’ dreams and struggles to make the city as their new home.
